Is it Really Possible to be Happy without Money?

Yes, you can really be truly happy and fulfilled without money. I know because I have met real people who are penniless…and ecstatic!

Do you see these guys below? These are nuns.

Catholic nuns, to be specific. And guess how much money these guys make every year? Nun ( ha ha ). They make no money, own no property, have no 401k, have luxury items, no husband, or children, or any other kind of worldly good. They live simple, quiet lives, without money, or mansions or cars, and focus their entire lives on loving God and loving others.

And they are also some of the happiest people I have ever met.

No, seriously. I have attended multiple Monastic retreats with nuns, talked with many nuns, and visited many Monasteries. Over the past few years, I would estimate I have spent around maybe 500 hours researching Catholic sisters and nuns, and they all had one thing in common: poverty and happiness. Without fail, all the nuns I encountered were almost always full of joy, life, peace and love, despite falling far below the poverty rate.

Perhaps we could learn a thing or two from nuns. Maybe life isn't about money or success after all. Maybe we have a higher purpose than just to consume and produce labor. Maybe there is more to life than savings accounts, bills, and investing. Maybe we were created by a loving God to love Him, to be loved by Him and to love others.

Regardless of your religious beliefs, I think we can all take a leaf out of these nun’s books and start living less for money, and more for our higher purpose.
