What Does the Bible Say about God’s Power?

The Bible has much to say about the power of Yahweh.

Firstly, the Bible teaches God is the sole Creator of the Universe. It is God, and God alone, that created humanity, the Heavens and the Earth, the sky, the planets, the water, the land; in essence, Christians believe God created everything this is, was, or ever will be.

“God stretches the northern sky over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing. He wraps the rain in his thick clouds, and the clouds don’t burst with the weight. He covers the face of the moon, shrouding it with his clouds. He created the horizon when he separated the waters: he set the boundary between day and night. The foundations of heaven tremble; they shudder at his rebuke.” Job 26:7

Secondly, the Bible teaches that God is all-powerful, that He is omnipotent. This means God is the greatest source of power that has ever existed, or ever will exist. There is none that has more power than God, not even Satan.

“In your hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand you.” 2 Chronicles 20:6

Thirdly, God is also omnipresent, meaning He is everywhere, there is nowhere God is not, and that God is also omniscient, meaning He knows all things.

“Can a man hide himself in hiding places, So I do not see him? Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?” declares the Lord.” Jeremiah 23:24

“He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” Colossians 1:17

“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.” Psalm 139

“He knows everything.” John 3:20

“Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O LORD, you know it altogether.” Psalm 139

Next, the Bible teaches God has power over life and death, Heaven and Hell, and right and wrong.

“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.” John 5:24

“I hold the keys of death and Hades.” Revelation 1:18

“For the Lord is our judge, The Lord is our lawgiver,The Lord is our king.” Isiah 33:22

“There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and to destroy.” James 4:12

And finally, Scripture teaches that only God and His Son, Jesus Christ, have the power to save.

“And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

“Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9

The power of God that is written about in the Bible, is astonishing; that that God is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the all knowing one, the all powerful one, the all present one, the Judge and Lawgiver, and King of Universe.
